PGF grants for 2025 support marginalized voices

The Trustees of the Paul Green Foundation considered 14 proposals in its November 2024 grants meeting. We are pleased to announce that seven nonprofits will receive support in 2025 for projects that resonate with the mission of the Foundation. Two organizations are new recipients of support for their programming:

Guerrilla Poets Limited of Charlotte will use their grant to support a six-week poetry writing and reading program in a Mecklenburg County retention facility for 18- to 24-year olds.

The Pauli Murray Center of Durham will use their grant to continue a virtual book club dedicated to dialogue, storytelling, and understanding of pieces created by LGBTQ+ and Black authors.

The NC Writers Network received a grant to continue their work to support incarcerated writers across the state who are writing under the guidance of network members trained in the program..

Chatham Arts Council, in partial support of a residency by playwright and actor Mike Wiley at Bonlee School and Bennett School in Western Chatham County. Wiley will be performing One Noble Journey: A Box Marked Freedom. Includes performances for all grades 3-8, writing workshops with grades 5 and 7 plus teacher development workshop with Wiley and Howard Craft.

Hidden Voices, of Cedar Grove, NC, to support artistic and collaborative community work with Growing Change and the Scotland County Dept. of Social Services. Community stakeholders will create workshops, presentations, and community conversation circles toward a revisioning of criminal justice in our state and the abolition the death penalty.

Mouths of Babes Theatre Company, in Wilmington, NC, received support to launch SCOTOPIA 20215, a new works festival of short plays featuring marginalized voices.

Resource Center for Women and Ministry in the South, in continuing support for a feature length film about NC quilter and community organizer, Jereann King Johnson.

Grants from the foundation generally range from $500 to $2500 and are awarded to projects that reflect the life's work and values of Paul Green. These values center on the arts, human rights, and racial equity. The next deadline for applications is October 1, 2025.
